The Kingarth History

Kingarth Hotel has been a licensed premises since 1786 and forms the heart of the local community at the south of Bute. Over the years it has been added to and developed whilst retaining much of its original character.

Since buying the Kingarth in 1997, we have concentrated on developing its potential to benefit both local and tourist guests. We embarked on a major building project and The Smiddy Bar was opened on 28th July 2001 having converted the old blacksmith’s barn, which was once run as part of the hotel shoeing the stagecoach horses. The Smiddy Bar now forms the heart of The Kingarth and plays host to everything from pool nights and cosy fireside meals to summertime weddings and “al fresco” dining.

Most recently we have renovated the accommodation at the Hotel, which now includes The Courtyard Suite comprising a Double ensuite, a twin ensuite and an interconnecting lounge area. This can be let as a whole, or as individual rooms as required.
