Pleasant Things to Do on the Isle of Bute

Explore the amazing things the Isle of Bute has to offer. Kingarth Hotel is perfectly positioned to provide you with the ideal base for taking part in a range of activities surrounded by the scenic landscape.

Wondrous Walking

Walk Scotland’s first official island-long distance footpath. Our front door is just half a mile from the beginning of The West Island Way, which opened in 2000 to celebrate the millennium. This path runs for the full length of the Island of Bute for approximately 40 kilometres. Visit the Walk Highlands website.

Choose how intrepid you want to be with this route. You can power walk this track in less than 24 hours, or relax and spread it over as many as five days. The way-marked route means you don’t run the risk of losing your way as you cross a varied and fascinating landscape that includes:

  • Coastline
  • Beaches
  • Rich farmland
  • Moors
  • Forests
  • Views of Arran
  • Views of Cowal Peninsula

Nine-Hole Golf

Drive and put through the oldest golf course on the island, which is 120 years old. Bute Golf Club’s unique Kingarth course provides an opportunity to sample the very origins of the sport. Find out more on the Bute Golf Course website.

Experience spectacular, breathe-taking views of the seaside against the dramatic backdrop of The Sleeping Warrior on the mountains of Arran. This short, but tricky, course offers panoramic views across the Kilbrannan Sound to Kintyre in the west and to the Ayrshire coast in the east.

Loch Fishing

Relax on the lochside, and try to hook some local fish. We’re lucky to have a good selection of fishing lochs within easy distance from our hotel. Visit the Isle of Bute Angling Association website for details.

Mount Stuart

Visit Britain’s most astounding Victorian Gothic mansion by taking a five-minute drive from Kingarth. Our hotel shares the vibrant surrounding landscape with this great house.

Tour this scenic mansion and take in the spectacular gardens. You’ll find an incredible collection of exotic and native flora. Find more information on the Mount Stuart website.
